I too grew up eating Moon Pies. Growing up my Dad was always off of work on Wed. so Wed. was Daddy day. He would take us where ever he went that day and we got to help him work around the farm. Almost always had Moon Pie and RC when we took a break from whatever we were doing.
I lost my beloved Red Velvet cake recipe when my computer harddrive crashed and tried this one from Paula's site. My family for the first Christmas ever did not finish it! they told me it was way to dry and did not have as good of taste as my old recipe. I noticed that it uses butter instead of oil and mine also had cocoanut extract as well as vanilla. A very gracious southern wife of an Army General gave me my recipe and when people ate it they actually offered to pay me to make them one at various functions but I always passed it on as it was to me. I have searched the internet for anything close and cannot find it. If you find one and try it you will never eat Paula's again.

Not sure where Ben got this recipe, but like many things in the South the name of a recipe is often derived from someone's story. I'll find out and get back to you.

I work at a country golf club here in Georgia, as a banquet sever. I work 4-5 weddings a week and every wedding so far has had a buffet of either Southern or Italian foods. I have seen:
pigs in a blanket teriyaki chicken on a stick
squash ravioli all types of baked chicken/fish
grit bar fruit & cheese plates
potato bar mozzarella on tomato plate
mini club sandwiches bacon wrapped streak tips on a stick
goat cheese salads And many others

I have worked there for a year now and have at least 100 pages of wedding menues, which is great now that I am planning my own wedding. If you need any ideas, let me know and i will send some pre-made menus
