What is Your Favorite Brunch Menu?

Growing up, my grandfather would prepare a big Saturday brunch,  just before all that yard work that had to be done. My PawPaw would fix piles of “Hot Cakes”, from Great Granddad Charlie’s family recipe, delicious omelets, and his signature fresh juice that he has drank, every morning, my entire life. The family ritual being that the coldest of those “Hot Cakes” would always end up as a delicious treat for one of our dogs. In honor of this beautiful Southern spring weekend,  The Hungry Southerner and friends are cooking up a little brunch of our own.  We are going to try out a few, cast iron skillet, biscuit recipes, and fry up some bacon and eggs.  Tell us what your favorite brunch ritual is?  Do you like to get up early and enjoy the morning with a little coffee?  Is there a brunch place that everyone has to know about?  What is that special dish you crave first thing on the weekend?  We’d love to hear about it, leave us a comment and tell us what you do for brunch.

My favorite brunch dish is eggs benedict, with asparagus substituting for the canadian bacon. I enjoy homemade turkey sausage, mimosas, chair tea and carmel lattes as well. I did write a post on my blog in the fall of all my favorite brunch things if you want to check that out!

Any brunch is a good one. Pancakes or French Toast, bacon, cheese grits, eggs, and coffee. Mmm good.

    • Agreed. To bad you weren’t around for brunch, would have thrown in the stone ground grits, but April made fruit salad which was awesome. Marks spinach/mushroom frittata was delicious.

  3. If you are ever in the Baltimore (Fells Point) area you MUST check out The Waterfront Hotel for brunch. Think creative menu items such as a cheeseburger omelette & bottomless mimosas (served right out of a beer pitcher) in the second oldest brick building in Baltimore. We’ve been there quite a few times to sample the delicious items on their brunch menu – the shrooms omelette is definitely a fav of mine!

As for a brunch at home – when it’s with a big crowd we like to make our own crazy quiches or stratas… hard rolls w/ butter… and usually more than 2 mimosas each. Yum yum!!

  4. I have to say pancakes are my favorite! I like them in the morning or for brunch. I don’t have a tradition per say, but BBB is becoming a place I love. If you are in Oxford, and want a delicious inexpensive breakfast/brunch with out thinking about Waffle House or Huddle House. This is SO much better than any Waffle House! And they make their own bacon, that is amazing!!!
Can’t beat a buttermilk short stack with homemade bacon.
